I never thought I would see this day

This dog has been a cat chaser since she was a puppy. When we found the kitten the other night, I was a little hesitant to take it afraid of how the dog would react. But check it out - she loves the little guy. When I feed him she comes and puts her head on my lap and even tries to help groom him. When he cries, she sits outside the bathroom door and cries, too.

  1. Please for your dogs sake keep the kitten away from her until at least 4 weeks old.
You need to ensure the kitten is virus free.
Fortunately, I have only had reports of gastroenteritis going round at minute.

  2. Thank you for telling me this. We are hoping to keep the kitten and I thought that introducing the dog now would be the best thing so that the dog could get used to the kitten. They seem to be getting along fine though and I will keep them away from each other until the kitten gets older.

  3. I put a question mark to the first poster's comment. In my opinion it is better to let the kitten experience all the bacteria first hand so the immune system will strengthen. I have known many babies that have been in contact with dogs and it has done them no ill.

  4. I don't think they were saying the cat would get sick from the dog. I think the concern was the cat could have a virus and get the dog sick. The dog had all her shots, but cat was a street cat so I'm sure it's mom had never had shots. It kind of makes sense. Even the vet said to keep him away from other cats and animals until he turns at least 1 month.
